Love your book reports! I have Phoebe Berman waiting for me as soon as I finish my latest library book due like the day after tomorrow!
Also, yes, the Beach Read adaptation feels super cursed to me. I love that book, I'm an EmHen girlie, but everything in me recoils with every new tidbit about the adaptation.
Ooof, no advice, but I know that spot well. Just know it's prob going to feel rocky and dumb and you just have to do it. Also bribery. (Mine is usually candy.)
I'm so happy you enjoyed Phoebe Berman — I hyped it so hard in the comments, haha... very excited to you read your "absolutely perfect book" this fall!
Haha, I knew what you meant... and I'm so excited to hear Phoebe is going to get an adaptation — though, agree, that I wish it was a series (I always want book adaptations to be series lol)
If you want a super HEA novel for fall, please look at ISTANBUL DREAMING! It's inspired bytthe author's parents' love story. https://www.denisederyabrandt.com/
I'm loving Whistler (about halfway through) and am the rare Patchett fan who didn't like Tom Lake. Agree with you that I'm not seeing many comparisons at all to The Correspondent.
Tom Lake is my favorite Patchett book, as well, but I loved Whistler—I loved Daphne, her husband, Eddie and the horse, of course! The Nest was awesome—Lake Effect was a letdown for me.
I love your book reports Becca (along with Grace Atwood’s as I am more of a thriller/mystery reader, but I am trying to expand my reading to some—hopefully good—romancy books (I loved The Idea of You!). Anyway, I have read all of Ann Patchett’s books and my 2 faves remain to be Bel Canto and State of Wonder. It seems that with her books/stories people are either very drawn to them (as I am with these 2), or not at all (like so am with some of her books). But her writing talent is always the star of her stories. I am keeping some of these others you shared on my TBB list!
Thanks for all the great book-inspo! I agree, Tom Lake is better than Whistler overall, but Eddie Tripplett won my heart.

Not listened to your Almost Life episode yet but I totally agree with what you say about it here.
thank you for your service as always!
a question: any tips for getting back into a draft after weeks (or even months) of it gathering dust when life got unduly busy?

I like your book reports as much as I loved book reports in school (a LOT, in case it wasn't clear.)
A girl after my own heart!
What a fantastic month of books. Always love reading these. You’ve inspired me to jump into Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney as a family drama lover!
You'll have to let me know what you think!
Omg the love hypothesis trailer looks so good EXCITING!!

I thought it was so good! Hype well-deserved. (Phoebe, not me, to be clear.)

Glad to hear you enjoyed Whistler after I was a hype woman in the comments for it!! That last sentence, though!
fun adaptation news!! I am thinking I'll bring The Shampoo Effect on an upcoming flight --
It would be perfect flight reading. Light enough, but still substantial.
I was so excited to add on Almost Life to my July Book of the Month box! Looking forward to the podcast ep once I’m done!
Looking forward to hearing what you think!

Looking forward to your novel!

I also saw Ann Patchett speak for a launch event for this book, and she just struck me as so lovely and down to earth.
Such a wonderful write-up—and THAT BLURB from Annabel!!! :)
I know: thinking of getting it tattooed on my forehead for this promo cycle.
I feel like you have to with a blurb that good!
