Hello,
How was your March? Mine was boring in a way that felt necessary. It’s also comical how much the end of Daylight Savings Time and some warmer weather transformed my mood. I’m leaving this month feeling less frazzled and more optimistic about what’s to come. Let’s get into the nitty-gritty, shall we?
Month in review:
Routine: I entered March craving routine. I was on a soft travel ban and didn’t step foot on a plane (very unlike me). Instead, I embraced cooking at home, getting back into a daily walking routine, going to bed early, and working on the third draft of my novel (more on that in a sec). I’m not usually someone who romanticizes routine (I like going! Doing! More! Different!), so I’m not sure if this was some light burnout, getting older, or perhaps spending too much time with
but, wow, do I feel like a new woman. The one part of my routine I didn’t quite reign in was my rampant workout class cancelling spree, so I’ll work on that one.Draft: Writing-wise this month felt transformative! I’m almost finished with the third draft of my second novel, and I feel like I’m starting to see things more clearly. I’ve been working on this project since January 2023, and was lamenting to a friend recently that I’ve found one of the biggest challenges of novel writing to be how expansive the process is. 14 months is a loooong time to sit in the dark feeling like things aren’t quite right, but not knowing how to fix them. But this month, armed with notes from my agent’s assistant who was my first reader, I made some fairly big structural changes, completely rewrote a few scenes that weren’t working, and dove deeper on character. And even though I still have a ways to go, my confidence has been greatly bolstered by this draft.
