becca! i SO needed this just after paygating my newsletter and feeling really 🫠 😵💫 🫥 about it... and you were my first paid subscriber. 💔 thank you!!!
OMG, so honored to be the first. I am usually not a commenter on any social media platform (Idk why, I should be. Always in a rush, I guess?), but glad I got to tell you here how much I have been loving what you're doing with your newsletter.
This list 😍 I have a few overlaps with you, but also found some new ones I'm excited to check out. Getting the paid versions of your favourite substacks really does turn a grey day more bright. xx
1) I'm sorry you are having a bad week. Hang in there and I hope whatever is off turns around soon. 2) love this post and I am a huge (paying) fan of many of these same ones. I'm afraid to roll-up how much I'm spending on subscriptions these days but it is so worth it!
1. Thank you, truly. 2. For better or for worse, I rationalize them as a business expense. But also when I think of the monthly all-in cost relative to the cost of going out to dinner with a friend it's about the same. This is the monthly cost to keep up with all these internet (parasocial?) friends? But instead of seeing them monthly I get happiness in my inbox every morning. OK I'm going. I sound unhinged.
I'm so glad you did this. I have to share mine at some point too! We have so much overlap but I must say that Emily and Casey are 1000% my morning required reading. The two of them plus Rachel Karten keep my elder millennial ass up to date on everything!!!!
My substack list is so chaotic! Variety is the spice of life? Here's a few that I've been enjoying.
Drinks With Broads https://drinkswithbroads.substack.com/ - Jessica and Heather from the Fug Girls basically writing an expanded Fug universe of a variety of things and recapping some shows.
It's Always Something https://itsalwayssomething.substack.com/ - Jen Lancaster and Karyn Bosnak writing about random stuff, similar to their blogs back in the heyday of blogs.
Dearest https://dearest.substack.com/ - If you like shiny objects this is a delightful newsletter of pretty and odd things coming up for auction. Excellent window shopping.
Finally I guess I should plug my own? https://photostealers.substack.com/ basically it's niche but if you enjoy random hobby drama, photography or get really mad about copyright infringement it may be something you will enjoy.
Wow! Thank you for taking the time to share such a thorough list. So many of these are new to me (excited to explore!). Fascinating how large the universe of content is out there.
Happily just forked over my credit card to (finally) upgrade my subscription to your and Olivia's substacks, and subscribed to Iman's as well. And thank you for your own essay on your paid tier - you and Grace nudged me to do the same!
Becca!!! You just made my day. Thank you so much for supporting and recommending YGM: The Newsletter, and including me in such fabulous company. I’m subscribing to them all!

Some I’m happy to support paid are Jessica Valenti’s Abortion Every Day, Platonic Love, and Grace!
It’s so kind how much love you’ve given to these paid publications, and even more so with your prose!!
I’m sorry to hear about the major disappointment. We are here to listen ❤️
Thank you so much, Kristen. That means so much.

Love the reframe. And yes, 100% a biz expense.
Such a great list. So many of my faves on here too, so many more I'm excited to check out now! Honored to be included <3
I love seeing Zoe’s here! Do you read Bess Kalb’s newsletter? She has a great mix of comedy and thoughtful pieces you might like.
Alisha I love your work and Bess'!
No! I don't, but I feel like I've heard her name so many times, so this is the final nudge I need to head over there and subscribe.

I'm very curious to see which ones you subscribe to that are outside the venn diagram!
